    Description

Up for sale is this great original antique 1856 handwritten letter which has some interesting content on fourth of July celebration fireworks.
Here is my translation of the letter (I've put the content on fireworks in bold):
    Sunday July 13, 1856
    Dear Father,
I was very glad to get your letter saying that I had a little brother, I want to see him very much.  What is his name, what does he look like, is he fat, and is he pretty from your letter I understand he was born on the 7th of July, or else the 6th, how is mother getting along.
The 4th was rainy here and we were afraid there would be no fireworks but it cleared up in the forenoon for about three hours when there came a furious thunder storm came up and lasted about half an hour that was the last of the rain. Uncle Pat took Pat, Charlie, and me into town to see the balloon go up the Boston fireworks were postponed till Monday we came out the same evening to see the Cambridge fireworks which were splendid, there were rockets, bombs, wheels, stars a triumphant arch all illuminated with Washington's Head Quarters 1776 and two American Eagles.  On monday we went into Boston to see the fireworks there, the crowd was tremendous I never saw so large a one in my life my hat was banged in and some rowdies kept up a running fire with some turf we could not see much but what we did see was splendid but the prettyest thing there were pigeons which run on wires several hundred feet in length two or three times the grand finale was the siege of  [.....?......] and the blowing up of  [.....?.....]
Aunt Ellen and Grandmother send their love and are very glad to hear that mother is doing very well.  Give my love to mother, the girls, Willie, Howland and the little gent keep a great deal yourself.  Your affectionate son.
    Cabot
The letter is 2 1/2 pages long and is written on one folded sheet of paper.  When folded once, the paper measures approximately 7 3/4 inches by 5 5/8 inches.  It is in good condition with just some minor wear.  For the most part, the writing is neat and legible.  All in all an interesting look into history and a nice piece of Americana.  Please look at all of the scans to further note the condition.
